Echinocereus fendleri Fendler's Hedgehog Cactus
CACTUS. Clusters of columnar stems with stout white spines that
are brown-tipped when young, gray when old. Bright magenta flowers
bloom in April. In the Empires, occasional in flat, gravelly soil
in desert grassland, usually at higher elevations than E. fasciculatus.
E. fasciculatus has thinner, longer spines and more ragged edges
on the tepals. E. coccineus has red flowers and longer white
or yellow spines, and grows on rock.
