Fraxinus velutina  Velvet Ash
DECIDUOUS TREE.  Opposite pinnate leaves have 5-7 shiny bright green oval, sharp-pointed leaflets.  Single-winged seeds ("keys") shown above.  Bark on old trees is light silver gray, deeply furrowed.  In the Empires, the most common large riparian tree.  Found in Davidson Canyon and on most of the large sandy washes.
