Juniperus coahuilensis Redberry Juniper
EVERGREEN TREE. Berries are pink or purplish (unripe berries
shown in photo). A short, broad-crowned juniper with light reddish-gray
bark that shreds in long thin strips. Abundant in the Empires, especially
in the low hills south of the highest peaks. Very large old trees
like the one in the photo are occasionally seen in washes and less commonly
on ridgetops.
