Plantago patagonica Patagonia Plantain
ANNUAL. Leaves in a basal rosette, long and narrow, narrow, pointed,
covered in long soft hair. Flowers white, in tight spikes on leafless
stalks, March-April. Flower spikes have distinctive long green bracts.
Flowerstalks on plants in photo are unusually short. Common in full
sun in gravelly, clayey soil throughout the Empires. Seeds are glutinous
when wet and help bind soil, reducing erosion.
FAMILY: Plantaginaceae (Plantain Family)
