Psilostrophe cooperi Paperflower, Yellow Zinnia
PERENNIAL. Shrubby, dome-shaped mounds of soft, flexible, slightly
fuzzy bluish-green stems with sparse linear leaves and abundant bright
yellow flowers, 2-3 cm in diameter. Blooms April-June and again in
late summer after rain. Very common in the Empires on flat open ground
in desertscrub. Zinnia acerosa grows in similar places but
has creamy white flowers and its stems are bristly with sharp, dark green
spiny-looking leaves.
